Coaches On David Letterman...

  1. The only problem I have with these videos is that they're totaly discrediting coaching. I laughed hard, believe me... But I always wondered if this affects what people think about coaching, coaches, and what it can really do.

Lesson: be real, focus on results, stop speak coachese! :)

  2. It's a shame that the coaches didn't understand Andy's true intention. He wasn't there to get coached, or to find out about coaching. His intention was to get laughs at the expense of the various coaches. That wasn't really fair was it? But there's a good lesson for us coaches: LISTEN to and try to ask questions about what it is the client wants! If they understood that, they could have played along and come off much better!

  3. That is perfect,, so funny- If you can't laugh at yourself, then you really do need some coaching !!!

  4. As a person who's coached more than my fair share of life coaches, I gotta say, Andy's got a point.

If you're a coach, your best chance of success is to stop being so "coachy".

P.S. Fabulous publicity opportunity for parenting coaches right now. Just send out a press release commenting on Octomom's (Nadya Suleman) appearance on The View yesterday and you'll get a few minutes in the spotlight.

  5. I imagine a great deal of work went into that snippet of film. It's really amusing as intended & people with common sense know this is a skit (Good coaches can laugh & observe 'subtle' messages :-). Thumbs up to the coaches who went along with it. Got their names out there. Wonder if it affected their numbers of clients, where they can prove themselves for the better anyway. Also wondering if any coaches did not give approval for broadcast??

  6. Interesting. I wouldn't have been able to keep a straight face if I'd been in the coach's seat!

  7. You know, it's the same with Psychologists! We're an easy target, that's for sure... and i't always easier to laugh at something you don't understand than to ask for the help you need.

  8. I laughed at these; they are hilarious. And, yes, they give "coaches" a bad name, although I heard no coaching. I heard self-appointed experts telling people...they are consultants, not coaches. I wasn't laughing at myself, because I try never to tell a person anything I could ask them.

Lianda Ludwig had it right: LISTEN and ask questions.
